Milwaukee Autumns Can Be Lethal - An Avalon Mystery
Published in Hardcover by Thomas Bouregy & Co (24 June, 1998)
Authors: Kathleen A. Barrett and Kathleen Anne Barrett
Average review score:

"I felt like I was visiting Milwaukee, my hometown."
I enjoyed reading the descriptions of Milwaukee flavored by a bit of history. I especially appreciated the dining spots of Milwaukee. It brought back many memories. Since I am an old Nancy Drew fan, I felt Beth was Nancy as a mature detective.

Another deadly season in Milwaukee
Beth Hartley now thinks that sleuthing is her new hobby. Her homicide detective boyfriend seems to be jealous of her skills. So, when a new murder of a law school buddy seems to just fall in her lap, he gets angry. This murdererseems to be following her wherever she goes and sends threatening letters with the pictures of her going about her investigation and her normal life. Now that the situation is getting personal, she is afraid of what will happen if she doesn't solve the murder.

The mystery angle of this story is pretty good, although I find Beth Hartly annoying. I can understand why the detective is always angry. This is a quick read but there isn't that much to it.

Fun amateur sleuth series
This was the first in this series that I have read. I plan to read the whole series. I enjoyed the main character Beth Harley. Her 3 law partners were enjoyable as well. She is dating a homicide detective and at first he is jealous of her sleuthing, but in the end accepts her help. I hope in future books they might even work together to solve crimes.

An old classmate from law school is murdered and she was writing a brief for him and feels compelled to solve his murder. She is threatened with letters and pictures of her while investigating the murder. She is afraid for some of her friends due to the threats.

This is a fun, fast read and I highly recommend it.

Endangered (Avalon Mystery)
Published in Hardcover by Avalon (June, 1999)
Author: Eric Charles Evans
Average review score:

Stick to kids and campaigns, Eric....
Not a very good mystery. There is little rapport with any of the characters, including Sam McCall. The background, which is one of political campaigns, might possibly be interesting if not so dry and specialized as it is in this book. The environmental issues are reduced to the not-so-burning-question of 'will the yellow-backed minnow survive as a species', and the obvious answer is, "who cares?". The motive for murder is revealed by artifice: a newspaper story quoted in the last chapter. And the prose is not deathless, but dead--and filled with needless typographical errors. Consider, for instance, this quote: "Without even a moment's hesitation, I raised my fun (sic) and fired." (p. 243)

Even on a snowy and boring Saturday afternoon, this is a novel to be missed.

Exellent for quick reading, Exciting and fast paced.
Sam McCall reminds me of Lawrence Sanders, Archy McNally character. Without the promiscuity. The story is about contemporary western issues and had a surprising and satisfying ending. Not much obvious violence and no blatant sexual overtones. I'd recomend it for teenagers or anyone interested in environmental issues, politics and mystery.

Great Story-- Beautiful Setting
I loved this story. I was a good mystery without the overtop violence that seems more and more to be an acceptable substitute for good writing. I can't wait next mystery in this series.

Avalon
Published in Paperback by Naiad Pr (September, 1991)
Author: Mary J. Jones
Average review score:

Dull and Unimpressive
This book was boring

If you love books about the Arthurian times, here's one
to enjoy. The story is about young Argante, daughter of Arthur... or Lancelot, it is something that is hard to figure since her mother slept with both men. It is a funny novel set during the times of the beginnings of Christianity and the wars between the English and The British. Read it, you'll enjoy it!

Everything They Ever Wanted (Avalon Romance)
Published in Hardcover by Avalon (June, 1998)
Author: Carol Blake Gerrond
Average review score:

This was a tell tale of real American Life on the Prarie.
While I was reading this book, I felt like I was a part of the story line. It was well written, and I really got into the plot. I think it was great besides the book cover. It does not give the book credit.

The Man Next Door - An Avalon Career Romance
Published in Hardcover by Thomas Bouregy & Co (24 October, 1998)
Authors: Bernadette Pruitt and Bordnadette Pruitt
Average review score:

Not typical of this author
I have personally read all of Bernadette Pruitt's books, and have loved them all. I thought that this one would be just as good as the others, but I can honestly say that this book was a let down compared to the other stories.

The novel begins conflict between Erin and Wyatt. Wyatt, who was the lawyer of the opposing party, moves in next door to Erin. Erin grows doubtful of Wyatt's selfless reasons for moving in next door, but allows her niece, Lily to associate with the man none the less.

Between the constant black cloud that Erin lives under, and Lily, Erin learns to love Wyatt. Her vulnerablity increases as she grows to care for the man that tried to take Lily away. Wyatt, whom was recoving from a horrible past marriage, believes that a ready-made family is something he DOES NOT need. Yet, he learns to love Lily, as well as Erin. Needless to say, the ending proves to be a happy one. Yet, compared with other Pruitt novels, I found this novel to be less convincing than the others. BUT, I definitly recommend "The Christmas Wish" by Pruitt. It is worth the money.

Classic Bowen
Classic Bowen, a romantic romp! Read it, live it!

Project Avalon (Blakes 7)
Published in Paperback by Citadel Pr (September, 1988)
Author: Trevor Hoyle
Average review score:

A tolerable Re-hashing
Trevor Hoyle's _Blake's 7_ and _Project Avalon_ are just novelizations of several episodes of "Blake's 7". For those of us who have seen the first season several times through, this isn't too exciting. Hoyle changes quite a few things, which didn't agree with me (i.e. in the series, it was Jenna who knew Avalon, not Cally). An okay book, but the show is better.

Foghorn Outdoors: California Golf 10 Ed: The Complete Guide to Every Course
Published in Paperback by Avalon Travel Publishing (09 January, 2002)
Authors: George Fuller and Avalon Travel Publishing
Average review score:

Foghorn Outdoors: California Golf 10 Ed:
Pretty much the same format as earlier editions, but different editor with mistakes and omissions...pretty lame update. Lots of information, but too bulky to be convenient, and don't trust all the driving directions. Take a pass on this one.

Hey! Wait a minute!
I bought the book like I've done five times before and it's missing stuff. Like the bullets that tell you if the course has a driving range, rentals, accomodations. etc. It also has a different way of mapping the courses which makes it a little easier to locate a course but since the maps are divided up on seperate pages you can't tell where it's at in relation to something you might recognize.
Buy an earlier version if you can find it because this one has nothing over the older ones.

Death At Briar Ridge - An Avalon Mystery
Published in Hardcover by Thomas Bouregy & Co ()
Author: Charles M. Poore
Average review score:

I really did not enjoy the book at all
This book was very boring. I am normally a fan of books from first time authors but this one was just terrible

Boring
Could not hold my interest

A fun summer read
Death at Briar Ridge is a fun summer read for those of us who enjoy mysteries in the Agatha Christie vein. No gore, no sex, just a good, solid story line involving three murders at a snowed-in lodge in the North Georgia mountains. Poore uses great descriptive language to create imaginative images for the reader. The ending is surprising, with all of the threads of the story neatly tied in.

Katie's Cakes (Avalon Career Romance)
Published in Hardcover by Avalon (December, 2001)
Author: Helen Spears
Average review score:

Cute romance but not enough substance
I thought the book made for a good romance but there seem to be missing the right element for the hero and heroine. It was as if the characters was just thrown together. It did not seem a genuine connection. But otherwise the other subplots worked nicely into the story.
